Djokovic and other tennis players test positive for Covid-19 in exhibition tournament in Belgade.
The top 10 tennis players Djokovic, Dimitrov, Zverev, Thiem have participated in the first exhibition tennis tournament of the 'Adria Tour' played in Belgrade and organized by the Serbian tennis player number 1 in the world. The first two tennis players have tested positive at Covid-19 along with other tennis players: Coric and Troicki, in addition to other people such as Djokovic's wife, a coach and even the general public.
The main cause of so much positive was that the minimum precautions for that event were not kept: there was no social distancing (the stands were full, they reached 4,000 spectators), they did not provide masks and almost no one wore them. To make matters worse after the sporting event there was a "party in style" where no distance was kept either.
Tennis players begin with these types of exhibitions preparing for the rest of the season as the first major tournament will be the United States Tennis Open in New York later in the summer. Specifically for Djokovic and other tennis players infected with Covid-19 it will be a major setback, since he will have to isolate himself for a couple of weeks and this carries with it a delay before the start of the season, which he will officially start or at least this had planned with the Washington Open 500 in mid-August.
After the strong setback suffered on the “Adria Tour”, the world's number 1 tennis player defended himself against the criticism he suffered: "When we started, the virus had spread in our region and we thought it was all under control. Unfortunately, we realized that the virus is still there and is part of our reality. Hopefully things will improve and we can recover the life we had before. " "I am very sorry for each of the COVID-19 cases. I hope you are all in good health."
