Great weekend in Seville with the international sports event MARCA SPORT WEEKEND
The La Cartuja Stadium, a field of glory where the war drums that will possibly take the soccer team to Qatar 2022 were already beginning to sound from its four corners, hosted the official start of MARCA Sport Weekend, the sport's event of the year Spanish, which came true thanks to a magic trick and a kind Sevillian night, the kind that caresses your cheek like a mother, thanks to the Laureus Spain MARCA Sport for Good Honor award (a very long name, yes, like the good stories), which crowned the projects to improve society through sports, the Gasol Foundation, that of Marc and Pau, with their particular crusade against childhood obesity, a silent pandemic. Carolina Marín, with her badminton for everyone, and Susana Rodríguez, who has taught us that the Camino de Santiago does not exclude anyone, were also MVP in a fantastic evening, full of surprises, which was a brilliant outcome to the first day of MSW , the sports and leisure festival that has turned Seville into the capital of wonder.
The day had had so many attractions since it was opened by the myth Iker Casillas at the University of Seville (crowded, without anyone doing anything) that it seemed difficult to keep the A to the dizzying hours that followed. But the grades were excellent throughout the day: four Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions talked about goldsmithing, about how gold medals are made. Fátima Gálvez, Alberto Ginés, Alberto Fernández and Sandra Sánchez, this one from Dubai, told battles of the day that reached their sporting Everest.
There were basketball talks with the harmonic president of the FEB and ACB, acronyms that stopped being water and oil, Jorge Garbajosa and Antonio Martín, conversations with Javier Tebas, definitive and resounding, as always when he takes the floor, exhibitions in the streets, the one made by the greats Abel Antón and Martín Fiz as in the old days of the Athletics World Cups, or that of the teacher Joan Plaza, teaching children in the central Plaza de San Francisco. MARCA Sport Weekend had started to roll with its yellow jersey (nobody gives more) and overwhelmed with its XXL proposal for the most enthusiastic fan who lives the sport as MARCA has taught us, with passion, with heart and guts. Our vocation is to inform and entertain. Nothing better to explain to us than during these three days of MARCA Sport Weekend.
Thomas Bach, president of the IOC, opened the Gala with a greeting to those present, countless guests, the cream of Spanish sport, some world-class legends, before Isabel Forner, with her innate ease of communication, and Jorge Then, with his prodigies of illusionism, they will captivate us all. Juan Ignacio Gallardo, director of MARCA, welcomed. "We are celebrating a unique, singular and spectacular project, the most important, by magnitude, category and scope, of all those held in Spain", he commented before thanking the Junta de Andalucía, represented by the Minister of Education and Sports, Javier Imbroda, and the Secretary General for Sports, José María Arrabal, and the Seville City Council, in the person of David Guevara (deputy mayor of the area of ecological transition and sports), essential travel companions in this project together with the sponsors Movistar, Grupo Puma, Endesa, LaLiga, Hyundai and Banco Santander.
Luengo displayed his art. He did it first with Alberto Ginés, amazed as he tried not to hurt himself with a skewer hidden in a bag. He later did it with Yelena Isinbayeva, the athletics legend, who appreciated being able to share all of her exploits in Seville during this weekend. Her face of astonishment at the Luengo wonder was unforgettable. David Guevara had commented before that "when Seville is sport, Seville is fairer, more inclusive and healthier". Perhaps that is what MARCA Sport Weekend is about, as Javier Imbroda later recalled. "Thank you for sharing this unique event. Thank you to the athletes because you are an inspiration. Society lacks references and sport is a school of life to teach all values because sport is universal."
The staff of Unidad Editorial, with Marco Pompignoli, president of Unidad Editorial; Nicola Speroni and Stefania Bedogni, general directors, applauded with fervor along with other athletes and sports representatives such as Ana Pelaez, Carolina Marín, Susana Rodríguez, Alberto Fernández, Abel Antón, Martín Fiz, Julián Lafuente (from the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation), Gisela Pulido, Dino Radja, Alberto Fernández, Cafú, Judith Polgar, Fátima Galvez, Mazinho, Littbarski, Diego Tristán, Kempes, Boris Becker, Pablo Alfaro, Giacomo Agostini, Garbajosa, Antonio Martín, Chus Bueno, from NBA. An endless list, all protagonists of the MARCA Sport Weekend.
In this gala we celebrate the III edition of MARCA Sport Weekend, a unique, singular, spectacular project; the most important for its magnitude, category and size of all those that are celebrated in Spain.

The culmination was the delivery of the Laureus awards with the godparents Agostini, who remembered Marquez, Becker, who valued Carlos Alcaráz and remembered Nadal, Cafu, who opted for Brazil for the Qatar World Cup and the Paralympic athlete Bebe Vío. The first prize went to the Gasol Foundation, endowed with 25,000 euros. It was picked up by Agustí, Pau and Marc's father. The second prize for Carolina Marín and the third for Susana Rodríguez, always nice. "Doing magic on a blind man is easy," she recalled. Seeing is believing the magic of Seville with the MARCA Sport Weekend. And Carolina walked on crystals dreaming of Paris 2024. Everything is possible.
